This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the LowerYourGaze mobile application (the “App”). By accessing or using the App, you consent to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (managed securely through our authentication provider). You also provide your name and age during onboarding.

1.2 Onboarding Survey Data

During setup, you may answer questions about your habits and behavior to help us personalize your experience and provide relevant insights. This includes questions about frequency, impact on daily life, coping patterns, and past attempts to quit. Your responses are stored securely and used solely to provide core app functionality.

1.3 Recovery and Progress Data

As you use the App, we collect data you voluntarily log related to your recovery journey. This includes streak information (start dates, lengths), daily status logs (clean/relapse), pledge records, relapse events, repentance events, urge events, and level progress. This data may include sensitive personal information about your habits and behavioral health. It is used solely to provide the App’s core tracking and progress features.

1.4 Community Data

If you participate in our community features, we collect the content you post, including post titles, body text, comments, upvotes, and any reports you submit. Your display name and certain streak information (such as current streak length) may be visible to other authenticated users through community features and the leaderboard.

Any information shared in community areas becomes visible to other users. Please exercise caution and avoid posting personally identifiable information.

1.5 Local-Only Data

Certain preferences are stored only on your device, including notification settings (reminder time and enabled/disabled status), audio preferences, and cached app data. This information is never transmitted to our servers and is cleared when you log out or delete your account.

1.6 Usage Data

We may collect anonymized usage analytics to understand how the App is used and to improve the user experience. This may include feature usage patterns, session information, and device information such as operating system and app version.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, personalize, and improve the App’s functionality.
  • Track your recovery progress and deliver insights based on your data.
  • Display community content and leaderboard information to authenticated users.
  • Communicate with you about updates, features, and support.
  • Analyze anonymized usage trends to enhance the user experience.
  • Ensure compliance with our Terms of Service and enforce community guidelines.

3. Where Is Your Data Stored?

Your account data, recovery progress, and community content are stored securely on servers provided by Supabase, our backend infrastructure provider. Supabase uses industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Local preferences and cached data are stored on your device only.

4. Who Do We Share Your Data With?

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:

4.1 Service Providers

We use trusted third-party providers to operate the App:

  • Supabase — backend infrastructure, authentication, and database hosting.
  • Expo — app build and runtime infrastructure.
  • Mixpanel — anonymized usage analytics to help us improve the App.

These providers process data only as necessary to deliver their services to us and are bound by their own privacy policies.

4.2 Legal Compliance

We may disclose information when required to comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or governmental requests, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Lower Your Gaze LLC, our users, or others.

4.3 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity. We will notify you of any such change.

5. Notifications

The App uses locally scheduled notifications (such as daily reminders and level-up alerts). These notifications are managed entirely on your device. No push notification tokens or notification data are sent to our servers or any third party.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure authentication, and access controls on our database. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access and Portability — Request access to or a copy of your personal data.
  • Correction — Update or correct inaccurate information.
  • Deletion — Request the deletion of your account and all associated data.
  • Restriction — Limit the processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Withdrawal of Consent — Revoke consent for specific data uses.

8. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through the Settings screen in the App. When you delete your account, all of your personal data — including your profile, recovery data, streaks, daily logs, community posts, and comments — is permanently deleted from our servers. All locally stored data on your device is also cleared. This action is irreversible.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active and as necessary to provide the App’s services. Upon account deletion, we permanently delete or anonymize your data unless we are required by law to retain it for a longer period.

10. Age Requirement

You must be at least 16 years of age to use the App. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a person under 16, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal and regulatory reasons. We will notify you of significant updates through the App. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
